The 1955 Jaguar D-Type, chassis XKD501, that won the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans race outright as an Ecurie Ecosse entry sold for $ 21,780,000. It is the seventh highest price ever paid for a car at public auction.

The 1955 Jaguar D-Type is the most-expensive British car ever sold at public auction. It is obviously also set a new marque record. It is also the most-expensive Le Mans 24 Hours race winning car ever sold at public auction.
