Bonhams sold a 2017 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet for a record €1,200,000 as the top result of The Zoute Sale 2017 in Belgium.
A brand new 2017 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet sold for a record €1,200,000 (US $1,400,000) plus VAT as a charity lot at the Bonhams The Zoute Sale in Belgium. This record-breaking mammoth Mercedes Benz was the last of only 99 built and donated by Daimler to be sold for the benefit of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The price paid was around double the original list price of the other G650 Landaulets that are already sold out. The second highest result at the auction was for the elegant 1968 Ferrari 365 GTC Coupé that achieved €805,000 ($942,000)

Bonhams 5th annual The Zoute Sale was held on October 6, 2017, at Place Albert de Knokke Le Zoute in the Belgian seaside resort town Knokke-Heist. An impressive 83% of lots sold and the auction achieved a total of €5,514,777.
James Knight, the auctioneer of the sale and Group Motoring Chairman, added: ‘Such enthusiastic bidding in the room and across the world is always encouraging, and the prices achieved throughout the sale reflect the palpable excitement in the marquee at Zoute on Friday. As an auctioneer, this is one of my favourite sales to conduct as we participate with such an enthusiastic audience. The credit for that must go to the organisers of the Zoute Grand Prix and we look forward to continuing our successful European auction season at Padua on 28 October.’
Top Results of the Bonhams De Zoute Sale 2017
As expected the top result at the Bonhams The Zoute 2017 classic car auction was for the brand new 2017 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet that sold for a record €1,200,000 (US $1,400,000).
This record-setting 2017 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, offered directly from the Mercedes-Benz factory, was sold as a charity lot with all proceeds benefitting the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The vehicle sold in the room to a private Belgian buyer. Although Bonhams waved auction premium for the charity lot, the new owner will have to pay full VAT (21% in Belgium), as it is a brand new, unregistered car
The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet is fitted with a powerful Mercedes AMG V12 biturbo engine, capable of producing 630bhp, with a peak torque of 1000 Nm. This mammoth 4×4 is more than 5 meters long and 2 meters high, with a ground clearance of half a meter thanks to its portal axles. Only 99 were built and promptly sold out at a list price of €630,000 (plus taxes) without options.
Other Top Results at the Bonhams Zoute Sale 2017
The elegant 1968 Ferrari 365 GTC Coupé was the second most valuable lot of the Bonhams De Zoute 2017 sale, selling for an impressive €805,000 to a bidder in the auction room.
German marques performed strongly throughout the sale, with the 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster leading the charge, selling for €391,000. The 2000 BMW Z8 Roadster, which had enjoyed just one owner from new, achieved well in excess of its €180,000-240,000 pre-sale estimate when it sold for €316,000. Also exceeding its estimate was the 1967 Porsche 911S 2.0 ‘Sunroof’ Coupé (€150,000-200,000) selling for €212,750.
British marques were well represented, with two Jaguars making the Top 10. The sleek, limited edition 1993 Jaguar XJ220 supercar caught the attention of several bidders in the room before selling for €391,000 whilst the 1965 Jaguar E-Type ‘Series 1’ 4.2-Litre Roadster (€180,000-220,000) exceeded its estimate when it sold for €250,700 to an auction room bidder.
Other highlights included:
- 1967 Citroën DS21 Décapotable achieved €218,500
- 1999 Aston Martin V8 Volante LWB Convertible sold for €207,000
- 1976 Porsche 911 Type 930 Turbo 3.0-Litre Coupé realized €195,000

The sell-through rate of more than 80% illustrates the continued interest both on the continent and further afield for the top examples of beautiful historic motor cars offered by Bonhams.’
