Million-Dollar Cars at Bonhams The Zoute Sale 2021
Two cars achieved results over a million-dollar (and euro) at the Bonhams The Zoute Sale 2021 in Belgium:
1994 Bugatti EB110 Super Sport
A 1994 Bugatti EB110 Super Sport, the only Bugatti to be designed and built in Italy, was the most expensive car sold in the Bonhams Zoute Sale 2021 when it achieved €2,242,500 ($2,594,348). This result was only second to the $2,755,000 paid for a similar model at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2021. EB110 prices increased from around a million dollar in 2016 to over two million for the three sold at public auction since 2019.
Unveiled on the 110th anniversary of Ettore Bugatti’s birth, the EB110 was a poster car of the 1990s. The Bugatti sold in Belgium had 30,000 km on the clock compared to only 10,000 for the record car. Only 30 Super Sport variants were ever produced.

A 1994 Bugatti EB 110 GT (Estimate: €1,000,000 – €1,200,000) was announced for the RM Sotheby’s Paris 2022 sale.
1989 Ferrari F40 Berlinetta
The second highest result at the Belgian auction was for a 1989 Ferrari F40 Berlinetta which achieved a very strong €1,840,000 ($2,128,696). This was the fourth F40 sold at auction thus far in 2021 for over $2 million. Like the others, this was a low mileage example in super condition.
This F40 was a one-owner supercar originally ordered from Garage Francorchamps. It had been dry-stored since 1992 and had covered fewer than 1,800 kilometer from new.

Another of the numerous Italian collectors’ motor cars that performed well was a 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Coupé — the marque’s first production four-seater, with a top speed in excess of 230 km/h. Delivered new to Garage Francorchamps, and concours-restored with Ferrari Classiche certification, this example achieved €592,250.
A 1969 Ferrari 365 GTC, offered for the first time on the open market, achieved €655,500. The original matching numbers example had been kept by one Italian owner from new.
Other highlights in the sale included:
- 1957 AC Ace-Bristol Roadster, an original left-hand drive example exceeded its pre-sale estimate to sell for €356,500.
- 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Sports Saloon also surpassed its estimate, achieving €241,500.
- The 1956 Paris Motor Show 1955 Jaguar XK 140 Coupé sold for €287,500. One of only four XK140s bodied by Carrozzeria Ghia of Turin, this example was presented as a rare restoration project.
- 1954 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible ‘State Limousine’, belonging to King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola of Belgium, which famously served as the Royal couple’s wedding car in December 1960, made €86,250.
- 1964 Fiat 500D Trasformabile charmed the Zoute crowd, achieving €57,500, nearly doubling its pre-sale estimate.
