Top Ferraris at Mecum Monterey 2016
2014 Ferrari LaFerrari
Mecum’s top result at Monterey 2016 was $5,170,000 for a 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari. Only 499 LaFerraris were produced and this was only the second one ever sold at public auction. The original list price for a new LaFerrari was around $1.7 million before options.
The LaFerrari sold at Mecum is one of only 3 produced in Nero DS Opaco (matt black) and has only covered 211 miles since new
(The first LaFerrari offered at auction – a red car with similar low mileage – was sold a day earlier by Bonhams for $3,685,000.)
2003 Ferrari Enzo
Mecums also had a very good $3,300,000 result for a 2003 Ferrari Enzo. This Enzo had a single owner and the car has covered only 2,050 miles since new. The result is at the top end for standard Enzos at recent auctions.
A second 2003 Ferrari Enzo – one of four finished in black – was not sold despite a highest bid of $2,150,000.
2011 Ferrari 599 SA Aperta
A 2011 Ferrari 599 SA Aperta sold for $1,155,000 at Mecum Monterey 2016. Only 80 of the open 599 SA cars were ever made and these demand a significant premium over the berlinettas.
Unsuccessful Bids for Ferraris at Mecum Monterey 2016
Several further Ferraris received unsuccessful bids over a million dollar at the Mecum Monterey 2016 sale:
- 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta – Highest bid of $2,850,000
- 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO – highest bid of $2,200,000 – both Gooding and Bonhams sold 288 GTOs for less during the same week.
- 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Long Nose – highest bid if $2,200,000
- 1990 Ferrari F40 – the highest bid of $1,600,000 is one of the highest ever for a standard F40.
Other Top Results at Mecum Monterey 2016
1966 Ford GT40 Mk1

2005 Porsche Carrera GT
A million dollar result for a Porsche Carrera GT at Monterey 2015 caused great excitement and saw at least 15 Carrera GTs testing the market in 2016. All failed to break the million dollar barrier – often by quite a margin – until Mecum did it again selling a low-mileage 2005 Porsche Carrera GT for $1,155,000 at Monterey 2016. In the same auction, Mecum sold a second Carrera GT for a more modest $670,000.
A $1.7 million bid for a 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach was rejected although higher than the results achieved for two similar cars earlier in the year.
The 1989 Daytona winning Porsche 962 attracted a highest bid of $2.2 million – $100,000 less than was offered at Kissimmee earlier in the year – and again failed to sell.
The highest unsuccessful bid at Mecum Monterey 2016 was $3.6 million for a 1933 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe.
