A racing 1956 Maserati 200 SI leads Gooding & Co’s 2015 Amelia Island classic car auction. 14 cars are expected to sell for more than a million dollar, including five Ferraris. A rare Fiat 8V Coupé is also expected to achieve over a million dollar. Further top cars include three Porsches, two Mercedes Benz 300 SLs, and two American grand cars from the 1930s.
Gooding Amelia Island Classic Car Auction 2015
Gooding & Co will stage its annual Amelia Island, Florida, classic car auction on March 3, 2015. The following 14 cars are expected to sell for more than a million dollar each:

1956 Maserati 200 SI
A 1956 Maserati 200 SI with coachwork by Fantuzzi (Estimate: Upon Request) will headline the 2015 Amelia Island auction of Gooding. This rare racing Maserati was the first 200 S built. It has an impressive racing history and was driven amongst others by Stirling Moss. It is a highly original example and was displayed at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance (2008) and earned a Best in Class trophy at the 2010 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.
1953 Fiat 8V Coupe
Although Fiat currently owned most of the Ferrari motorcar manufacturer, it is rare for a Fiat-branded car to achieve results in the same million-dollar category. However, the 1953 Fiat 8V Coupe with coachwork by Vignale (Estimate: $1,600,000 – $2,000,000) is a notable exception.
Only 114 of these sports cars were ever made with only nine being Vignale-bodied coupés. The car is in magnificent condition and has been exhibited at various shows in recent years was awarded Best in Class at Quail Lodge and Amelia Island in 2013.
Million-Dollar Ferraris at Gooding Amelia Island 2015
Gooding will have 15 Ferraris on offer at Amelia Island 2015 – five are expecting to achieve results in excess of a million dollar each:
1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4
The 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 with coachwork by Scaglietti (Estimate: $3,400,000 – $3,800,000) is a rare “garage find”. In contrast to some recent barn finds, such as the rusty Baillon Collection cars successfully sold by Artcurial in Paris 2015, this Ferrari was in a garage since 1982 and is in a very well-preserved, original condition. The paintwork was last touched up in the 1970s while the black interior is the original.
1961 Ferrari 250 GT Series II Cabriolet
The white 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Series II Cabriolet with coachwork by Pinin Farina (Estimate: $2,000,000 – $2,500,000) is one of only 200 produced. It comes with a fitted hardtop with integrated sunroof. The car is in show-quality condition and has won amongst others five Ferrari Club of America Platinum Awards.
1991 Ferrari F40
Although Ferrari built 1,315 F40s, the cars have in recent years achieved results in excess of a million dollars. This 1991 Ferrari F40 with coachwork by Scaglietti (Estimate: $1,600,000 – $1,800,000) is one of the 213 produced for the US market and has covered only 2,500 miles from new.
1967 Ferrari 330 GTC
The 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC with coachwork by Pininfarina (Estimate: $900,000 – $1,100,000) has covered only a remarkably low 12,000 miles since new. It is in an exceptional unrestored condition, in part due to one owner not taking it out of the garage between 1970 and 2001.
2011 Ferrari 599 SA Aperta
The 2011 Ferrari 599 SA Aperta with coachwork by Pininfarina (Estimate: $900,000 – $1,100,000) is the newest car expecting to sell for a million dollar at Amelia Island. Only 80 of these cars were produced with the entire production run already sold out by the time the car was announced to the wider public. The car was produced to commemorate the 80-year anniversary of the Pininfarina design house, a longtime collaborator of Ferrari. The 599 on offer has covered only 350 miles.
Porsches at the Gooding Amelia Island 2015 Auction
Amelia Island is usually a good venue for Porsches. The Gooding auction will have 18 on offer of which three are expecting to achieve a million dollar each:
- 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR (Estimate: $1,200,000 – $1,500,000) – a three-time 24 Hours of Daytona and two-time 12 Hours of Sebring participant.
- 1996 Porsche 993 GT2 (Estimate: $950,000 – $1,250,000)
- 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS Lightweight (Estimate: $1,100,000 – $1,400,000)

Similar Porsches have failed to clear reserve margins several times in recent months. However, with bids for special 911s (and 959s) increasing, more are sure to test the market in coming months.
Mercedes Benz 300 SLs at Gooding Amelia Island 2015
Two Mercedes Benz 300 SLs will be on offer at the 2015 Amelia Island classic car auction of Gooding:
- The 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster (Estimate: $1,600,000 – $2,000,000) is the more desirable, as it is a late model with disc brakes and an alloy block. It comes with high specification including a factory hardtop. The car is finished in Fire Engine Red with the original white interior. The very good unrestored condition, in addition to having covered only 18,000 miles since new, may encourage bidding.
- The 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster (Estimate: $1,300,000 – $1,600,000) is another low-mileage example (27,000 miles) but in a very good, restored condition.
Classic 1930s American Cars at Gooding Amelia Island 2015
Two large 1930s American cars are expected to achieve over a million dollar at the Gooding 2015 Amelia Island classic car sale:
The 1934 Duesenberg Model SJ Touring Berline with coachwork by Rollston (Estimate: $950,000 – $1,400,000) is one of only 36 supercharged SJs produced. It was restored in 2013 to concourse condition and was showed amongst others at Pebble Beach in 2014.
1932 Lincoln KB Custom Stationary Coupe with coachwork by Dietrich (Estimate: $800,000 – $1,000,000) is one of 17 built and one of three known survivors.
