A 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spider, originally owned by Steve McQueen, is the most expensive car yet announced for the inaugural Gooding Christie’s New York Rétromobile 2026 classic car auction. This rare NART Spider has a pre-sale estimate of $15,000,000 to $20,000,000. Further top Ferraris already announced for the sale include a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB and a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso.
Gooding Christie’s New York Rétromobile Sale 2026
The inaugural Gooding Christie’s New York Rétromobile classic car auction is on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21, 2026, at the Javits Center, New York, USA. The sale is organized in conjunction with Rétromobile New York, the first North American installment of the esteemed European collector car event held annually in Paris in late January or early February.
Steve McQueen’s 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spider
The 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spider, chassis 10453, first owned by legendary Hollywood actor and racer Steve McQueen, will be offered at public auction for the first time ever at the Gooding Christie’s New York 2026 sale.
Chassis 10453 was the sixth of only 10 such NART Spiders built, and the first of only two examples originally finished in Blu Sera (Evening Blue). However, shortly after buying the Spider, McQueen repainted the car in a darker metallic blue, retrimmed the seats with a distinctive stitching pattern, and made other cosmetic modifications – resulting in a NART Spider like no other.
Following an accident on Pacific Coast Highway, McQueen had the car repaired by Junior Conway. By 1971, the Ferrari had joined the collection of J. David Kopf of Tujunga, California, before joining the current owner’s collection in 1986 via Long Island Ferrari dealer Grand Prix SSR.
The NART Spider has remained a centerpiece in his world-class collection throughout the last four decades, preserved rather than restored, retaining its matching-numbers engine and transaxle, original Scaglietti body, distinctive metallic blue finish, and McQueen-era custom details. It appeared at the 1996 Louis Vuitton Classic at Rockefeller Center and the 2003 exhibition, La Bella Macchina: The Art of Ferrari at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia.

With only ten 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spiders ever built, the cars rarely come to auction. A Steve McQueen connection usually gives a car a significant value lift. Back at RM Monterey 2014, Steve McQueen’s 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 by Scaglietti sold for $10,175,000 — still by far the highest price for a non-Competizione 275 coupe.
However, the presale estimate of $15,000,000 to $20,000,000 for the Steve McQueen 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spider is well below the model record. A 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T Spider sold for $27,500,000 at the RM Auctions Monterey 2013 sale. More than a decade later, it remains the most expensive purely road-going car ever sold at public auction. At the time of the sale, it was the second-most expensive car ever (currently 16th in purely nominal terms).
