The top results at RM Sotheby’s Paris 2025 sale during Retromobile week were for two Ferraris: a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM and a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari.

RM Sotheby’s had a good auction week in Europe by selling over €120 million in cars in only five days. While the most expensive Grand Prix car ever, the 1956 Mercedes-Benz W196R Streamliner was sold in Stuttgart, RM Sotheby’s also earned over $70 million at the traditional Paris Rétromobile week sale. The top result was $36 million for a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM by Scaglietti.

1964 Ferrari 250 LM
The 1964 Ferrari 250 LM by Scaglietti, chassis #5893, sold for a model record €34,880,000 ($36,344,960) at the RM Sotheby’s Paris Rétromobile 2025 classic car auction. The presale estimate was “in excess of €25 million”. This 250 LM won the 1965 Le Mans 24 Hours race and the sale set a new record for a Le Mans race-winning car.
The €35 million public auction result made this 1964 Ferrari 250 LM:
- The most expensive Le Mans winner ever — previous record was $21,780,000 for a 1955 Jaguar D-Type.
- The most expensive 250 LM ever — two 1964 Ferrari 250 LM cars have sold for over $17 million but neither was a Le Mans winner.
- The sixth most expensive car ever (in nominal terms).
- The fourth most expensive Ferrari ever (only three GTOs had sold for more).
- The eighth car to sell for over $30 million at auction.
- The 77th car sold for more than $10 million at auction.
This 1964 Ferrari 250 LM had a remarkable in-period racing history. Not only was it the only privateer Ferrari to have won Le Mans outright but it also participated in a record six 24-hour races: three times at Le Mans and three times at Daytona. In 1970, the seven-year-old Ferrari still finished a remarkable seventh at Daytona — its final race before spending the next five decades in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.

Other sale highlights include a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari, finished in bespoke Giallo with Nero roof over a matching black and yellow interior and presented on centre-lock, forged wheels from the track-only FXX-K, which made an excellent €3,548,750.00.

The third highest selling car was another remarkable hypercar, the 2022 Pagani Huayra R. It was the first time one of the limited production, track-only hypercars had been offered at auction, and with single ownership from new and only 196 kilometers at the time of cataloging, the car richly deserved the €3,042,500 it achieved on the day.
