1953 Ferrari 250 Europa Coupe by Vignale

The most expensive car sold at the RM Sotheby’s Miami 2024 classic car auction was a 1953 Ferrari 250 Europa Coupe by Vignale, chassis 0295 EU, that achieved $4,295,000 (Estimate: $4,500,000 – $5,500,000), shattering the previous world record for the model by $995,000.

This 250 Europa was the first of only 22 produced, one of only two fitted with a 3-liter Clombo V-12, and one of only three fitted with the exquisite coupe bodywork designed by Vignale’s Giovanni Michelotti. It was a highlight of the 1953 Paris Motor Show. The Europe Coupe was restored from 2010 to 2015, achieving Ferrari Classiche certification. With its original engine confirmed by a Ferrari Red Book, it has won multiple awards, including Best of Show and FCA Platinum, and featured at top events like Pebble Beach and Villa d’Este, plus coverage in Cavallino magazine.

This Duesenberg, with its highly sought-after “Disappearing Top” body style, is one of only two surviving examples featuring original rear-mounted spares, and one of only 25 ever fitted with the “Disappearing Top* convertible body by Murphy. It was fully restored by specialists at Randy Ema, Inc., and is Auburn Cord Duesenberg (ACD) Club Certified (D-078).

A 1929 Duesenberg Model J ‘Sweep Panel’ Dual-Cowl Phaeton by LeBaron failed to sell with bidding stalling at $2.5 million.
