Most Expensive Car Results at Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach 2025

1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider Competizione
The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider Competizione, chassis 2383 GT, sold for a model record $25,305,000 at the Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach 2025 sale. It was the most expensive car sold in the 2025 Monterey / Pebble Beach motoring week auctions (excluding the $26 million result for the charity sale of the 2025 Ferrari Daytona SP3). It was also the most expensive car ever sold by Gooding Christie’s.
The record-breaking 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider Competizione, chassis 2383 GT, is one of only 56 California Spider SWB cars. Ferrari built only three with lightweight aluminum coachwork, of which chassis 2383GT is one of only two completed to full competition specification.
Equipped by Carrozzeria Scaglietti with lightweight aluminum bodywork, covered headlamps, and a rare, removable aluminum hardtop, 2383 GT was fitted with a competition-style, quick-release external fuel filler. It was raced in period by an amateur in Germany and Austria.
The record 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider Competizione was only the 20th car to ever sell for over $20 million at public auction. It was the 13th California Spider to sell for over $10 million and increased the model record from the €16,288,000 ($18,649,760) paid for a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider at Artcurial’s Paris 2015 Rétromobile auction.
The other two Ferrari California Spiders in the auction performed below expectations.
- The 1957 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Prototipo, the car that launched the legendary model, was reportedly sold for only $7,265,000 (Estimate: $7,500,000 – $9,000,000).
- The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider was reportedly sold post-hammer for $7,550,000 (Estimate: $8,000,000 – $10,000,000).
1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione Series III

Gooding Christie’s second-highest result was a model-record $8,145,000 paid for a rare 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione Series III, Chassis #16407. It was one of only 15 factory competition Daytonas ever built and was delivered new to Luigi Chinetti’s N.A.R.T. team.
Its debut race was the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1973. However, its most remarkable result was probably as a six-year-old car when it finished 2nd overall and first in class at the 1979 Daytona.
