Incredible results for modern Ferrari hypercars surprised (shocked? amazed?) the collector car market during the first quarter of 2026. However, it was a return to form with classic Ferraris the top results at Gooding Christie’s sale, and a California Spider the most expensive car overall during the 2026 Amelia Island and Miami classic car auction.

The most expensive car result at the Gooding Christie’s Amelia Island 2026 sale was $16,505,000 for the 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, chassis 1963 GT. At the time of sale, it was the 11th most expensive Ferrari California Spider ever, and the 15th California Spider result above $10 million.

This spider, fitted with a rare factory hardtop, was originally delivered to Germany but spent most of its life on the West Coast of America. It was only restored around 2010, when it was refinished in period-correct non-metallic dark blue over tan leather. (The original colors were silver over grey.) For enhanced drivability, a 330 GT five-speed gearbox has since been installed, but the original factory-supplied gearbox accompanied the car.

Five further classic Ferraris sold for more than a million dollars at the Gooding Christie’s Amelia Island 2026 sale. The first two cars were offered for sale for the first time in four decades:

The 1951 Ferrari 212 Export Spider, chassis and engine 0076E, is an early even-serial-numbered competition car wearing Michelotti-styled Spider coachwork by Carrozzeria Vignale. Chassis 0076E made its debut at the Geneva and Torino Motor Shows in Spring 1951. It was at the Torino show where legendary Italian director Roberto Rossellini, in attendance with Ingrid Bergman, first laid eyes on this exact car, which he would acquire later in the year.

The largely unrestored, Scaglietti-bodied 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza, chassis and engine 0522 M, was delivered new to Italian racer Franco Corancchia of Scuderia Guastalla. It was successfully raced in period in both Europe and the US. Previous owners included prominent names in collecting, such as Otto Zipper, Briggs Cunningham, and Augie Pabst.

The 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 remains one of the most popular classic Ferraris and a reliable seller at many auctions despite only 330 ever being produced. This Grigio Argento over Black example sold as expected.

The 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso is similarly a fairly rare car with 350 produced and frequently offered at auctions, and selling within expectations. This final Ferrari 250 GT model is considered by many to be the most elegant classic Ferrari.

The 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS rarely achieves a million dollars, but this “Chairs and Flares” sold for $200,000 above the upper estimate. It is the only Ferrari Dino delivered originally in Porsche Signal Orange.

A few further notable results at Gooding Christie’s Amelia Island sale 2026 included:

1932 Miller FWD Special — New Marque Record

The 1932 Miller FWD Special, chassis 02, offered from the Price Museum of Speed, sold for a new marque record $3,305,000, above the presale estimate of $2,000,000 – $3,000,000.

This Four-Wheel-Drive (FWD) is the only survivor of the two built for the 1932 Indianapolis 500, where it was assigned to board-track star Bob McDonough. After the race, chassis 02 was improved upon, returning to the Speedway for the 1933 Indianapolis 500 with driver Frank Brisko.

It was a six-time Indianapolis 500 entrant, placing 4th in 1936 with Mauri Rose, and was raced by Bill Milliken at Pikes Peak, Watkins Glen, and Mt. Equinox between 1948 and 1951.

The unique 1924 Miller ‘183 Convertible’ Speed Record Car sold for 857,500 (Estimate: $1,000,000 – $1,400,000). It was built for two-time Indy 500 winner Tommy Milton and recorded 151.26 mph at Muroc Dry Lake in April 1924.

2005 Porsche Carrera GT

Two months earlier, the $3,112,500 paid for the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT would have been a sensational new model record, but at the Gooding Christie’s Amelia Island auction in March 2026, that result was only good enough to make it the third-most expensive Porsche Carrera GT ever.

How fast did the Porsche Carrera GT price move in the market? The model record $2,200,000 stood from March 2022 until one sold for $3,085,000 at the RM Sotheby’s Arizona (Scottsdale) in January 2026. The new model record $6,715,000 was set at the Broad Arrow Amelia Island auction on 6 March 2026.

The Gooding Christie’s Carrera GT was sold on the same day as the record car. The Silver Metallic is the most common color for the Carrera GT, although the Ascot Brown and Black leather interior was less popular new. The 1,807 miles were not particularly low (or high) for the model. The presale estimate, set weeks earlier, was a more modest $1,500,000 – $1,800,000 (Without Reserve).
