Classic cars rather than modern hypercars were the leading results at the RM Sotheby’s Arizona classic car auction during Scottsdale car week 2025. A golden 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta ‘Tour de France’ in a very original condition was the most expensive car sold. The 1931 Bentley 8-Litre Convertible Victoria by Murphy is the only 8-Liter Bentley originally fitted with American bodywork. The 1939 Bugatti Type 57 C Atalante similarly had unique long-tail coachwork by Gangloff. Three classic Mercedes-Benz 300 SLs were sold followed by two modern McLaren Senna cars.

The 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta ‘Tour de France’ achieved $3,772,500 as the top result at the RM Sotheby’s Arizona 2025 classic car auction. Despite an active in-period racing history in Italy and especially Latin America, this Tour de France never suffered a major accident and remained in a very original condition.

This 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta is one of only 77 TdF cars built and one of only of only 28 single-louver, covered-headlight examples. It is fully restored and finished in the original Oro Chiaro golden color. The original Bordeaux leather interior was preserved and sold with the car, which currently have a brown leather interior.

It was originally built for two-time Italian National Road Racing Champion Casimiro Toselli. He sold the car in Caracas after finishing fourth, behind three other Ferrari 250s in the 1959 Venezuelan Grand Prix.

A notable result was when the 250 TdF participated in the first round of the 1960 World Sportscar Championship at the 1000 KM Buenos Aires, where it finished 3rd in class and 11th overall.

A 1931 Bentley 8-litre Convertible Victoria by Murphy sold for a model-record $3,195,000 as the second-highest result at the RM Sotheby’s Arizona classic car auction 2025. The one-off car is the only 8-Litre Bentley that was originally fitted with American custom coachwork.

This “W.O.” Bentley is in concourse condition and retains its original body, chassis, engine, gearbox, and all other major mechanical components.

The original owner was Conrad H. Matthiessen Jr, heir to one of the three brothers behind “the Sugar Trust,” which at one time controlled 98 percent of the American sugar market. The car also spent considerable time in Mexico before returning to the US in the 1950s.

The 1939 Bugatti Type 57 C Atalante by Gangloff was the third most expensive car in the RM Sotheby’s Arizona 2025 sale. It is a late-production Atatlante and built to order with a unique long-tail Gognloff coachwork. Only 33 Type 57 Atalantes were produced.

The factory-supercharged 57 C chassis, retained its original engine and gearbox. The Bugatti has a known history from new with the car originally delivered to Algeria, where it remained for the duration of the Second World War. It had only two owners between 1955 and 1996 when it was bought by the Petersen Automotive Museum.

RM Sotheby’s sold three classic Mercedes-Benz 300 SLs at Arizona 2025:

The top result was the $2,040,00 paid for a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. This fully restored Gullwing retains a numbers-matching body, NSL engine, front and rear axles, Rudge wheels with correct date codes, and period-correct Nardi steering wheel. It was refinished in period-correct Silver Metallic over red leather — the original scheme was black over red.

A late production 1962 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster features disc brakes and retained its numbers-matching chassis, engine, front axles, body, steering box, and rear axle. The three-owner car had only 46,500 miles on the clock.

The 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster came to the market for the first time in almost four decades. restored in the 1990s, it retained its numbers-matching chassis, body, engine, gearbox, differential, front axles, and steering box. It is finished in the factory-correct livery of Weissgrau over Leder Rot upholstery with a black soft top.

At Mecum Kissimmee 2025, a Roadster sold for $1.5 million but a further Gullwing failed to sell with a $1.9 million bid and two Roadsters failed to sell with. bids higher than accepted at Arizona.

Further Notable Results

The 2015 Ferrari 458 Speciale achieved a world record price of $786,000, far exceeding its pre-sale estimate of $400,000–$475,000. Finished in a rare Blu Tour de France with NART livery stripes and Giallo Modena brake calipers, it features optional exposed carbon fiber elements. With just 5,106 miles and a tan interior with special-order blue trim, this like-new example stands out as one of the most collectible modern Ferraris.

The 1984 Audi Sport quattro, a rare Group B homologation special, sold for $758,500, surpassing its pre-sale estimate of $375,000–$475,000 and further proving the appeal of Group B cars. Known as “The F40 Killer,” it was ordered by Audi Club of North America founder Frank Beddor Jr. and raced extensively by Steve Beddor, setting records at the Virginia City Hill Climb. Retained by the Beddor family since new, it is a rare and significant piece of motorsport history.
