The auction model record price for a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT is $6.7 million, while the first result over $3 million was only achieved in January 2026. Earlier, the Carrera GT had evolved from a rare $1-million car before 2020 to a $2-million car by 2022. Prices weakened somewhat between 2022 and 2025 but surged again in early 2026. Four of the five Porsche Carrera GTs sold at auction thus far in 2026 achieved over $3 million. The original sticker price for a Porsche Carrera GT in the US was $440,000. For years, Porsche Carrera GTs sold mostly for just over $500,000 at auction, with good examples going up to $750,000.

Porsche Carrera GT Prices at Over $1 Million at Auction

The first time a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT sold for over a million dollars at public auction was at the Mecum Monterey auction in August 2015 ($1,080,000). Mecum achieved over a million dollars for a Porsche Carrera GT again at Monterey in 2016 and 2017. At Monterey 2019, RM Sotheby’s sold only the fourth Carrera GT (in orange) for over a million dollars.

During COVID, Porsche Carrera GT prices somewhat unexpectedly ballooned. Several remarkable prices were achieved at online auctions and at Bring-a-Trailer.

Porsche Carrera GT Selling for Over $2 Million in 2022

The 182-mile 2005 Porsche Carrera GT (Lot S145) sold for a model record $2,200,000.

At Amelia Island in March 2022, Gooding sold a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT for a new model record $2,012,500 — the first time the price exceeded two million dollars. A few weeks later, Mecum increased the model record to $2,200,000 at Glendale 2022.

Porsche Carrera GT prices at auctions in 2023, 2024, and 2025 were mostly weaker. Results around $1.5 million were considered good, with a few even struggling to achieve a million dollars.

At the start of 2026, Porsche Carrera GT prices surged dramatically. Almost four years after the Carrera GT first sold for over $2 million, it became a $3 million and even $6.7 million car in early 2026.

The Carrera GT model record increased to $3,085,000 at the RM Sotheby’s Arizona (Scottsdale) auction in mid-January 2026. At Miami, in late February 2026, RM Sotheby’s increased the model record again to $3,305,000.

The current Porsche Carrera GT model record is $6,715,000, set at the Broad Arrow Amelia Island auction on 6 March 2026. This Carrera GT is one of only 19 paint-to-sample (PTS) versions delivered through Porsche North America, but the price is hard to explain on a Gulf Blue over Ascot Brown Carrera GT with 2,807 miles on the clock. (A year earlier, the same money could have bought four Carrera GTs, but maybe not in baby blue.)

The previous model record for the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT was $3,305,000 for a US-specification car finished in GT Silver Metallic over Ascot Brown and Natural Black leather. It had only 603 miles on the clock (but receipts for a $89,395 service shortly before the sale).

Of the five Porsche Carrera GT hypercars sold at public auction thus far in 2026, four achieved prices above $3 million.

The Porsche Carrera GT (Type 980) was introduced in 2003 at the Geneva Auto Show, with most cars delivered in 2004 and 2005. This mid-engine hypercar is now particularly praised for being analogue.

All Porsche Carrera GT cars were fitted with a naturally aspirated 5.7l V10 engine and equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. It achieved a top speed of over 330 km/h (205 mph).

A production run of 1,500 cars was planned, but only 1,270 were produced in Leipzig, Germany. Officially, production was not extended past 2006 due to changes in airbag regulations in the US, but many thought the new car failed to sell fast enough.

Of the 1,270 Porsche Carrera GTs produced, 644 were in US specification. The original MSRP price in the US was $440,000 and €452,690 in Germany.

The original colors were Guards Red, Fayence Yellow, Basalt Black, GT Silver, and Seal Grey, but custom colors were later offered. The standard metallic GT silver is the most common color. Interiors were finished in Ascott brown and black, dark grey, or terracotta. Paint-to-sample (PTS) versions are rare, and a unique color can add significantly to the auction values of cars. Low-mileage, of course, also helps to increase auction prices.
