The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO “Bianco Speciale”, which sold for $38,500,000 at the Mecum Kissimmee 2026 collector car auction in Florida, USA, is the only white Ferrari 250 GTO produced. The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO “Bianco Speciale”, chassis 3729GT, sold for $38,500,000 at the Mecum Kissimmee 2026 collector car auction in Florida, USA, on 17 January 2026. No presale estimate was released.

The $38,500,000 price made the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO “Bianco Speciale”, at the time of the sale, the fifth most expensive car ever sold at public auction. It is the third most expensive Ferrari ever, and similarly, the third most expensive Ferrari 250 GTO ever sold. It is by far the most expensive car ever sold by Mecum.

The white GTO is only the 24th car to sell for more than $20 million and only the 9th to achieve over $30 million.

The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO “Bianco Speciale”, chassis 3729GT, was the only one of the 36 Ferrari 250 GTOs ever produced to be finished in white. (Enzo Ferrari famously disliked white cars.)

The 250 GTO with Scaglietti coachwork, designed by Bizzarrini, was originally ordered and raced by British racing team owner John Coombs. He famously used this 250 GTO to convince Jaguar that the racing E-Type needed more work and performance.

Although the car has been repaired, refreshed, and refinished, it was never fully restored. Many of the modifications introduced during its racing career were maintained.

The Bianco Speciale was raced in period by, amongst others, Graham Hill, Mike Parkes, and Jack Sears. It achieved numerous second places overall and some class wins, including 2nd overall in 1962 and 1963 for the RAC Tourist Trophy Race at Goodwood, which was an official round of the FIA International Championship for GT Manufacturers.

The GTO was driven by Jack Sears to 1st in the GT class for the 1963 Guards Trophy Race at Brands Hatch. Sears owned the Bianco Speciale for three decades before former COO and president of Microsoft, Jon Shirley, acquired it in 1999 in the United States. Shirley returned the GTO to its original white and participated in numerous events and historic racing events.

The buyer at Mecum Kissimmee 2026 was, according to Hagerty, David Lee, a California resident from Hong Kong, who added the GTO to his existing collection of over 30 Ferraris, already valued at over $100 million.

The 1962-3 Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis 3851, sold at Bonhams Quail Lodge 2014 for $38,115,000, was the 17th Ferrari 250 GTO produced and originally belonged to French privateer Jo Schlesser, who with Henri Oreiller as co-driver, finished second in the 1962 Tour de France Automobile races series. After Oreiller crashed fatally at Mothlhery, the car was rebuilt and thus often termed a 1962-3 car.

Reports frequently circulate of 250 GTOs selling privately for far more than the auction cars. Prices of $60 million and $80 million are often mentioned but can, of course, not be verified. However, such high prices are plausible, as none of the four GTOs sold at auction would be the first choice of buyers if all 36 were available.
