Top Million-Dollar Results at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2022 Sale
Twelve cars sold for over a million dollar at the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2022 sale:
1934 Packard Twelve Individual Custom Convertible Victoria

The most expensive car sold in the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2022 sale was a 1934 Packard Twelve Individual Custom Convertible Victoria by Dietrich that achieved $4,130,000. This First in Class and runner-up to Best of Show at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is one of only three known survivors. It narrowly failed to take the Packard marque record, which remained at the $4,180,00 paid for a 1934 Packard Twelve Individual Custom Stationary Coupe by Dietrich at the RM Sotheby’s Andrews sale in 2015.
2015 Ferrari LaFerrari

A 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari in rare all-black livery was the most expensive of the modern hypercars on offer in the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2022 sale. It achieved $3,662,500 — although just within the $3,600,000 to $4,000,000 estimate, it was still the highest LaFerrari result in five years. The Ferrari had only 576 miles on the clock.
Ferraris were only offered in low numbers at recent auctions and the Amelia Island sales were no exception. The only top car failing to sell at RM Sotheby’s was a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS with the highest bid of $1,550,000 just $50,000 shy of the lower estimate.
1930 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Sedan by Murphy

The 1930 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Sedan by Murphy was one of the surprise results when it achieved $3,525,000 at the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2022 sale. The result was more than a million above the pre-sale upper estimate and the seventh Duesenberg Model J to have sold for over $3 million in the past year. This Model J took the Best of Class award in the Duesenberg Class at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
2019 Bugatti Chiron and 1994 Bugatti EB 110 GT Prototype

A nocturne black over Beluga black and Italian red interior 2019 Bugatti Chiron sold for $3,360,000 — just above estimate but still one of the weaker Chiron auction results. This hypercar had 3,950 miles on the clock — significantly more than many of the other as new, barely used limited-edition hypercars that are often on offer at auctions.
The 1994 Bugatti EB110 GT Prototype initially failed to sell with a highest bid of $1,850,000 but was later listed as sold for $2,100,000, which is the highest result for an EB110 GT. Bonhams sold one for €1,817,000 ($2,050,666) in Paris 2022 only the day after RM Sotheby’s increased the model record to €1,805,000.
2020 McLaren Speedtail

The 2020 McLaren Speedtail sold for $2,700,000 — although within the estimate, not a spectacular result. The three other Speedtails sold at auction thus far all achieved over $3 million including $3.3 million at Mecum Kissimmee 2022. This Speedtail was the 87th of the production run limited to 106.
