RM Sotheby’s announced three hypercars — a LaFerrari, McLaren Speedtail, and Bugatti Chiron Sport — for sale in the Amelia Island 2022 classic car auction in Florida, USA, in early March 2022.

A trio of hypercars is amongst the lead car announced for the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2022 sale. These modern supercars are a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari, 2020 McLaren Speedtail, and a no-reserve 2019 Bugatti Chiron Sport — all three are likely to achieve results above $3 million.

RM Sotheby’s results and earnings at recent Amelia Island auctions were as follows:
In 2017, RM Sotheby’s earned an Amelia Island record $70.9 million but in contrast to most years, a second auction day was held during which 63 cars from the Orin Smith collection were sold without reserve to earn a total of $31 million. The top result that year was $7,700,00 paid for a 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Cabriolet by Vanvooren.
Hypercars at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2022 Sale

Although a 1934 Packard Twelve Individual Custom Convertible Victoria by Dietrich (Estimate: $3,750,000 – $4,500,000) is the most expensive car on offer in the RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2022 classic car auction, it is a trio of modern hypercars that is likely to attract the most enthusiastic bidding. The trio consists of a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari, 2020 McLaren Speedtail, and a 2019 Bugatti Chiron Sport — all three likely to achieve results above $3 million. The presale estimates are surprisingly modest and do not yet reflect the exuberant prices that were achieved at the Scottsdale and Kissimmee auctions in January 2022.

Boasting the most extreme performance ever achieved by a Ferrari production car, the 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari features the most advanced features of any Ferrari to date. The extremely rare all-black livery LaFerrari is equipped with the F1-derived hybrid powertrain, which heralded a new era for supercar technology. Boasting 576 miles at the time of cataloging, the LaFerrari is estimated to sell for $3,600,000 to $4,000,000.

Joining the Italian supercar is a fusion of science and art, the 2020 McLaren Speedtail. The Speedtail is known as the most aerodynamic and fastest car ever produced by McLaren. With each of the 106 examples being purchased by pre-selected customers before the model’s announcement, the availability of this Speedtail, number 87, offers an exciting opportunity to partake in the most advanced road-going vehicle that McLaren has built to date. (Estimate: $2,600,000 – $3,000,000). the three Speedtails sold at auction thus far all achieved over $3 million including $3.3 million at Mecum Kissimmee 2022.

Rounding out the impressive trio is one of the most exclusive hypercars ever produced, the 2019 Bugatti Chiron Sport. One of approximately sixty Chiron Sport examples produced and wearing a striking color combination of Nocturne exterior over Beluga Black and Italian Red interior. The Chiron’s brutal performance provides 0-100 mph in 4.4 seconds. This once-in-a-lifetime Chiron is an exquisitely optioned, beautifully maintained example of the world-renowned hypercar and has a mere 3,950 miles on the clock. Documented with copy of original window sticker, service records, and receipts. Accompanied by owner’s manuals, Bugatti Chiron coffee table book, speed and valet keys, and model-specific USB drives. This Chiron Sport is the first example to ever be publicly sold at auction in North America and will be offered with no reserve. (Estimate: $3,000,000 – $3,300,000).
The field for modern hypercars at Amelia Island 2022 was left entirely to RM Sotheby’s. Although Gooding has a 2019 Ford GT on offer, it is likely to achieve only a third of the price of these hypercars. The newest million-dollar car at Bonhams is a 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster – a beautiful example but a supercar from an entirely different era.
