2026 RM Sotheby’s Monterey Sale (Auction Results)

Top results at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 auction were for a Ferrari Luce, McLaren F1 GTR, Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, and a Daytona SP3.

The 1996 McLaren F1 GTR, chassis #10R, sold for a record $34,655,000 at RM Sotheby's Monterey 2026 as the most expensive British-built car and the most expensive McLaren ever sold at public auction.

The most expensive car at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 classic car auction was, somewhat surprisingly, the 2026 Ferrari Luce ‘Tailor Made’, which sold for $40 million to set new records for the most expensive electric car and most expensive automotive charity lot ever. The highest regular car result was almost $35 million for a 1996 McLaren F1 GTR — a new marque and British-built car record. It was followed by the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, which more than doubled the brand record to almost $19 million. RM Sotheby’s sold 69 cars for over a million dollars at the three-day Monterey Car Week 2026 auction.

2026 Ferrari Luce ‘Tailor Made’ — Record Charity Car

2026 Ferrari Luce Tailor Made Chassis 0 - most expensive electric car and charity car ever sold
2026 Ferrari Luce Tailor Made Chassis 0 (© 2026 Courtesy of RM Sotheby’s)

The 2026 Ferrari Luce ‘Tailor Made’, Chassis 0, achieved an astonishing $40 million as the most expensive car sold at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 classic car auction. It became the most expensive car ever sold for charity and simultaneously the most expensive electric car ever. It is the sixth-most expensive car ever and the third-most expensive Ferrari.

The presale estimate of “Value In Excess Of $1,100,000” was about double the retail price but not unrealistic. At the RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 auction, a 2025 Ferrari Daytona SP3 ‘Tailor Made’ sold as a charity lot for $26 million, around ten times the original retail price.

This Ferrari Luce will be the first vehicle produced of Ferrari’s first-ever all-electric car. It was donated by Ferrari with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting charitable initiatives through The Ferrari Foundation.

1996 McLaren F1 GTR — Marque and British Car Record

1996 McLaren F1 GTR, 10R, on sale at RM Sotheby's Monterey 2026 auction
1996 McLaren F1 GTR (Alex Penfold ©2026 Courtesy of RM Sotheby’s)

The 1996 McLaren F1 GTR, chassis #10R, sold for a record $34,655,000 at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 as the most expensive British-built car and the most expensive McLaren ever sold at public auction. The GTR took both records from a white, standard 1994 McLaren F1 that achieved $25 million at the RM Sotheby’s Abu Dhabi 2025 sale.

It was the first of only two short-tail prototypes built as a development of the 1995 winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, chassis 01R. Chassis #10R participated in qualifying for Le Mans in 1996, but it was the sister car, chassis #11R, that competed in the actual race.

It became famous as both Nick Mason’s car and for wearing the special McLaren factory livery in Blood Red with bold yellow “96 GTR” graphics, which led to its nickname “The Pop Art F1”.

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport — Marque Record

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, chassis #003, most expensive Chevrolet and Corvette ever

The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, chassis #003, sold for $18,705,000 at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 sale, well above the pre-sale estimate of $11,000,000 to $13,000,000. The result more than doubled the previous marque record of $7,705,000 set by the 1957 Chevrolet Corvette SS Project XP-64 at RM Sotheby’s Miami 2025 sale.

This 1963 Corvette Grand Sport was one of only five ever built and the first of three coupes. It was sold in the blue number 2 livery it wore at its most memorable race: the Sebring 12 Hours, where it finished second in class in 1964 (and 3rd in 1965).

Top Modern Ferrari Results at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026

RM Sotheby’s had several top modern Ferrari results at the Monterey 2026 classic car auction, including model record prices for several of the Ferrari “Big Five” or “Halo” cars:

2023 Ferrari Daytona SP3

The 2023 Ferrari Daytona SP3 sold for a remarkable $17,825,000, as the most expensive regular Ferrari lot at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 classic car auction. The result was well above the pre-sale estimate of $10,000,000 to $12,000,000 and over $10 million more than the previous non-charity model record.

Only four SP3s have sold at public auction thus far, including the model-record SP3 ‘Tailor Made’ as a charity lot at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2025 for $26 million.

Named in tribute to Ferrari’s legendary 1-2-3 finish at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona, the Daytona SP3 is the third model in the marque’s exclusive Icona Series, pairing dramatic 1960s-inspired styling with an 829-horsepower naturally aspirated V-12. This Atelier-configured example is finished in Giallo Triplo Strato with Nero racing stripes and shows only 227 miles despite two owners.

Ferrari produced only 600 Daytona SP3s, of which most were sold to previous buyers of the Monza SP1 or SP2 Icona series cars. A basic SP3 was priced from around $2.3 million, but it is doubtful if any left the factory without options that pushed the price significantly higher.

The 2025 Ferrari Daytona SP3 ‘Tailor Made’ was the most expensive charity car and the most expensive new car ever sold at a public car auction, until both records were increased to $40 million by the 2026 Ferrari Luce at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026.

1995 Ferrari F50

The 1995 Ferrari F50, previously owned by heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, sold for $12,105,000 — just below the model record price set earlier in the year at Kissimmee (and increased again on the same day at Mecum Monterey).

The 1995 Ferrari F50 was the 73rd of 349 made and one of the 55 produced for the US market. It is finished in the characteristic Rosso Corsa paint over a Nero interior with rosso seat inserts.

This F50 has only 6,196 miles — seemingly undriven since its last auction sale in 2022. It sold for $4,625,000 at Gooding Pebble Beach 2022 and for $2,640,000 at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2017, when it had 5,694 miles on the clock.

Only seven Ferrari F50s have ever sold for more than $6 million at public auction — three of these were in January 2026.

1985 Ferrari 288 GTO

The 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO sold for a new model record of $11,555,000 at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026. This European-specification car was the 99th of fewer than 300 produced. It is finished in Rosso Corsa, the only color available for the 288 GTO, with a Nero interior.

Remarkably, it shows only 1,541 km (~958 mi.), making it one of probably only six sub-1,000-mile Ferrari 288 GTOs in existence. It showed 1,470 kilometers (~913 miles) when imported into the USA in 2021.

Only four Ferrari 288 GTO cars had ever sold for more than $5 million at auction — three in January 2026. Only 272 cars were produced, making it the rarest of modern Ferrari hypercars.

Next Ferrari 288 GTO to test the market:

2003 Ferrari Enzo

The 2003 Ferrari Enzo sold for a very strong $9,410,000 — well above the estimate of $6,750,000 to $7,500,000. A year earlier, this would have been a model record but, at the time of the auction, was only the 8th-highest Enzo result ever.

This Enzo has no real special features. It is one of 111 US-specification cars out of a total of 498 built. It is finished in the model-typical combination of Rosso Corsa paint over an interior of Rosso seats and console trim offset with a Nero dashboard and panel trim.

The Enzo was catalogued as “ideal for driving” and “displaying a balanced 9,834 miles on the odometer”. This is relatively high mileage compared with the most expensive examples of this model, but at least some owners actually get to enjoy the thrill of the car’s performance.

Next Enzo to test the market:

2015 Ferrari LaFerrari

The 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari increased the model record to $8,695,000 at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026. This 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari was a single-owner, US-specification car with only 711 miles on the clock. It is finished in Rosso Corsa with a Nero top over an extra-range Nero leather interior.

1991 Ferrari F40

The 1991 Ferrari F40 set a new model record for a standard F40 when it achieved $8,365,000 at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 — almost $2 million more than the Bachman F40 at Mecum Kissimmee 2026.

It was the 94th of the 213 cars produced for the US market. It was ordered directly from the factory by legendary US auto industry executive Lee Iacocca, who drove it in Italy but sold it soon after with just 72 miles on the clock. It currently displays just 320 miles.

Five of the six F40s sold at major auctions in 2026 achieved more than $5 million.

Top Pre-War Results at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 Sale

In addition to the modern hypercar results, RM Sotheby’s also achieved notable results on pre-war cars at the Monterey 2026 auction:

The 1935 Duesenberg Model JN Convertible Coupe by Rollston and Bohman & Schwartz sold for a strong $9,080,000 — above the pre-sale estimate of $5,750,000 to $8,000,000. It was the third-highest price ever paid for a Duesenberg at public auction.

Chassis J-560 was ordered new by Clark Gable and extensively customized to his personal specifications. It was one of just four Rollston-bodied convertible coupes built on the final JN-series.

The car received numerous bespoke modifications, including an extended hoodline, sharply raked windshield, rear fender skirts, and dual rear-mounted spares. Closely associated with Gable throughout his ownership, it appeared in studio promotional photography and the 1938 film Merrily We Live, while also serving as the automobile in which he courted actress Carole Lombard.

Duesenberg, American Car, and Prewar Auction Record

The Duesenberg marque and prewar auction record is $22,000,000 paid for Gary Cooper’s 1935 Duesenberg SSJ at Gooding Pebble Beach 2018.

As a publicity stunt, the only two SSJ cars produced were presented to Gary Cooper and Clark Gable for use for half a year.

It increased the marque record from the $10,340,000 paid for a 1931 Duesenberg Model J Long-Wheelbase Coupe at Gooding Pebble Beach 2011.

NOTE: The American car record was increased to $42,905,000 by the 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe sold at Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach 2026.

The 1937 Delage D8-120 S Aerodynamic Coupe by Pourtout, chassis 51620, set a new marque record when it sold for $5,780,000 at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 sale.

This prototype was Louis Delage’s personal automobile and clothed by Marcel Pourtout in an advanced aerodynamic design by Georges Paulin. The car has wind tunnel-tested coachwork, frameless window glass, and sweeping aluminum body panels.

At the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, this Delage completed the Tour d’Elegance and was ultimately awarded Best of Show.

The 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante sold for a mid-estimate of $4,955,000. Chassis 57551 is one of just 42 Type 57S examples built and among only 17 bodied as an Atalante. Furthermore, it is one of only four fitted with lowered headlights on the competition-style chassis.

Delivered new to Jean Lévy of Strasbourg, the car carries exceptional provenance, later joining the famed Harrah’s Automobile Collection, where it was restored to 57SC specification and achieved Best of Show at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 1976. Under the ownership of Dr. Herbert Boyer and Jim Patterson, RM Auto Restoration restored the Atalante to its original configuration, earning it the J.B. Nethercutt Trophy at Pebble Beach in 2014.
